Don Veinot’s Presentations

Christianity in the Age of Re-enchantment – The Paganization of the West The Church, which is the Body of Christ, was born in a largely pagan Roman Empire in the First Century. It grew out of the Nation of Israel by followers of the Jewish Messiah and began to spread about 10 years after the resurrection of Jesus. Over the next three hundred years the believers transformed the existing pagan culture into what became Western Culture whose ethics and morals were the guardrails for 1700 years. Pagans have been trying to return the favor for the past 200 years. Historian and atheist Tom Holland has documented the changes and cultural benefits, arguing for the need for Christianity. Will the church pick up the challenge in the Age of Re-enchantment?

No Goddess but Gaia: Mainstreaming Paganism in America Many people today have the misguided idea that “Climate Change” activism is about preserving the planet. In reality, it is, and was, a religious movement intended to replace Christianity. As part of the First National “Earth Day,” on April 22, 1970, The Environmental Handbook: Prepared for the First National Teach-In was distributed to thousands of public schools for the “Teach-In.” One of its main ideas was that “Christianity, in absolute contrast to ancient paganism and Asia’s Religions…” was to blame for so-called climate problems, so a new religion was needed. The paganization of the West, which had been at work, was energized by the U.S. Government and private enterprise on the First National Earth Day.

Robert Bowman's Presentations

Michael the Greatest Angel: Jehovah’s Witnesses and Jesus
Jehovah’s Witnesses profess to believe the entire Bible to be the word of God. Yet they deny that Jesus is God incarnate and teach instead that he was Michael the archangel, supposedly the first and only direct creation of Jehovah God. According to the Watchtower Society, Jesus died and then was recreated as an angelic spirit again, and he will remain in heaven forever. On all these points, the Christology of Jehovah’s Witnesses proves to be profoundly unbiblical.

One of the Gods: The Changing Jesus of Mormonism
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormonism) has taught dramatically different doctrines about Jesus. Joseph Smith, the founder of the new religion, began by teaching that Jesus was God, then that he was one of two divine personages, and finally that Jesus was one of three Gods and that we could become Gods just as he did. As we’ll see, the LDS Church’s doctrine about Jesus doesn’t quite match any of the doctrines that Joseph Smith taught.

Muslim Prophet Before Muhammad: Islam and Jesus
Islam views Jesus as one of many prophets, whereas Christianity views Jesus as God’s divine Son. Yet Islam also gets surprising things right about Jesus, including that Jesus was born of a virgin and performed miracles. Even when it denies the deity of Christ, it does so in ways that reflect correct religious impulses missed by some heretical religions that claim to be Christian. Understanding these things can provide helpful bridges for talking to Muslims about Jesus.

A Jewish Buddha: Jesus in Liberal & Progressive Christianity
Liberal or progressive Christians regard Jesus as a Buddha-like teacher who experienced the divine in a way all people can. Their mystical view of Jesus reinvents Christianity as a spiritual path compatible with modern values. They deny God as personal Creator, biblical inerrancy, traditional Christian morality, and humans as sinners needing redemption. An effective Christian response is to show that the Sermon on the Mount which they often profess to embrace teaches the foundations of Christianity they reject.

Terrence Betlehem
Terence Betlehem has enjoyed the challenge of defending the faith from an early age. At age five, he remembers talking to the girl next door about Jesus. Yet he was only born again in 1997 when he fully accepted the gift of God’s grace. Though working full-time as an engineer, he has been doing street evangelism since 2021 and now serves as an outreach leader for two local outreach groups. He also co-leads a Bible study at his home church, Grace Church Eden Prairie. Having felt a call to Muslim ministry, Terence has been the local organizer for the conference Making Jesus Known Among Muslims since 2024. He also hosts a weekly livestream on the M2M Network YouTube channel, where he is a regular contributor.

Terence Betlehem’s Presentation: “The Islamic Dilemma and Recent Muslim Apologist Attempts of Fixing the Problem.”
The Islamic Dilemma involves the fact that the Quran affirms the truth in the Biblical scriptures, namely the Torah, Gospel and Psalms. However, when we investigate these scriptures, we see them testifying that the claims made in the Quran are false. This talk would address the recent efforts of Islamic apologists to address the Islamic dilemma, including the claims (i) of "conscious edits" being made to previous scriptures, (ii) that the Quran was speaking of different scriptures that were completely lost from the historical records, and (iii) that the Quran is a judge over previous scriptures and only the Quran is preserved and (iv) that the Quran is only affirming parts of the previous scriptures. We show how each of these assertions fall down, leaving us with the conclusion that the Quran affirms the Biblical scriptures are true.

Robert Highley
Robert “Bob” Highley has been in ministry for 30+ years. He is currently the pastor of the Lake Phalen Community Church. He holds two Bachelor of Science degrees in both Bible and Social Science from what is now known as the University of Northwestern at St. Paul. He has done work at Bethel Seminary and he holds the MA degree from Trinity College of the Bible and seminary, located in Indiana. The degree he holds is Christian Philosophy and Apologetics. He enjoys teaching Theology, Apologetics and ministry related courses. He has developed his own premarital counseling workbook for those seeking to be married. And he enjoys watching just about anything Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Bob Highley's Presentation:America’s Past, Present and Future: What in the World View Happened?
Pastor Highley will engage with the founding of America from a world view standpoint. What world view was embraced? Did it change over time? If so, can we narrow down the time? What can we say about today? Is there a particular world view this country embraces? If not, should it? And if so, what should it be? Where might we begin to go from here?
